GEMS AND GEM MATERIALS

(GEOL 3090)
No prerequisites. A general interest course for students in any field. Learn through hands-on testing and examination of various gem materials.
  • origin and occurrence of gemstones, their history and folklore;
  • physical and optical properties of gems leading to their identification.
  • detection of synthetics, imitations and gemstone enhancements
  • factors affecting the value and beauty of gems.
